An initiative designed to support students from the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) in pursuing doctoral studies in reputed Indian universities, research, and higher educational institutions.
The key objectives of the Dr. Bashi Ram Bodo Doctoral Fellowship.
Motivate and support students from BTR in pursuing doctoral research and higher studies in various disciplines.
Provide financial assistance to meritorious students, enabling them to overcome financial barriers and pursue doctoral studies.
Alleviate financial burdens and create an environment that promotes academic achievement and research focus.
Support research that contributes to innovative solutions for local and regional challenges in BTR.
Encourage research with practical applications that benefit the BTR community and beyond.
Celebrate Dr. Bodo’s legacy by nurturing future generations of scholars and leaders from BTR.
To be eligible for the Dr. Bashi Ram Bodo Doctoral Fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Must be a permanent resident of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
Must have secured admission into a doctoral program at a reputed Indian central or state university, or any other higher educational institution of repute.
Must demonstrate financial need for the fellowship and must not have availed any fellowship/scholarship till the day of filling out the application for this fellowship.
Must have an annual family income of Rs. 400,000 (four lakhs) or below.
Must exhibit academic excellence with a strong research proposal related to the socio-economic or academic development of BTR.
The reservation structure for the Dr. Bashi Ram Bodo Doctoral Fellowship is as follows:
A majority of the seats will be reserved for Scheduled Tribe candidates.
A portion of the seats is reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates.
Seats are reserved for Persons with Disabilities candidates.
Reserved for General category candidates, Other Backward Classes, and More Other Backward Classes.
A horizontal reservation of 30% for women will be maintained when applicable across all categories.
The reservation policy is flexible, allowing open competition if suitable candidates from reserved categories are not found.
The fellowship will provide the following financial support:
50 students will be selected for the fellowship for the 2024-25 financial year.
Each selected candidate will receive Rs. 90,000 every six months, totalling Rs. 1,80,000 per year.
The fellowship is awarded for an initial period of two years, with the possibility of an extension for an additional year based on satisfactory progress and research output.
The fellowship application process will be conducted online and follow the below steps:

If the number of applications is lower than expected, the application period may be extended by one additional week.
The selection committee will review the applications based on the submitted materials, academic merit, and the relevance of the proposed research.
The selection of candidates will be conducted in the following phases:
The selection committee will screen the applications to shortlist candidates based on eligibility and merit.
Between 8th and 14th November 2024, shortlisted candidates will be called for a personal interview or written examination to assess their research aptitude, academic credentials, and motivation.
The selection committee will submit the final list of 50 selected candidates to the Managing Committee for approval by 15th November 2024.
